Greetings from the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois. I recently started a Yahoo Group for the expressed purpose of alerting trailriders across the nation about issues that involve keeping our equestrian trails open. As many of you know, the U.S. Forest Service is closing equestrian trails all across the United States. They are doing this in the name of science and resource damage, but in actuality Forest Supervisors have been given power to make decisions that impact us tremendously.

The purpose of TrailAlert is to allow us to share incidents, issues, court cases/rulings and legislative language that could impact our quality of riding and enjoying nature.

I believe ALL ABOUT HORSES has given us a great opportunity to share this information. In addition to AAH, I would encourage you to also use TrailAlert to inform us about virtually anything that impacts our riding.

I would urge you to be cautious and to consider any and all information that you share. It must be factual and verifiable. I will be sharing information from time to time on what's going on in our "neck of the woods."

Finally, it is my ultimate goal to establish an online network from coast to coast in order that we can come together as one voice.....just like other special interest groups do. I had a Forest Service friend of mine say that the problem with horse people is "they are not organized." He's right on the money!!! If people who are breeders, trail riders, commerical businesses, Farm Bureaus, Horse Councils and ranchers could come together just think about the voice that we could raise.

Enjoy your riding season.
