View Full Version : horse wormer overdose
I accidently gave a whole tube of zimecterin gold that was meant for 1,200 pd horse to a 250 pd six month old filly. Could you tell me what to do to help her. I gave her a quart of mineral oil per the only vet I could get a hold of but she was so busy with another animal and couldn't talk .
Hopefully your foal will be fine. Ivermectin has a fairly wide safety margin. However it would be best to get her in to a vet at the very least for monitoring. Ivermectin toxicity produces neurological symptoms--stumbling, toe-dragging, loss of balance and even blindness.

You might want to put her on probiotics (Acidophilus), an off the shelf item in the pharmacy section of most big box stores. They help restore the bacteria in the gut. They won't hurt her. It comes in capsules which you can break open and sprinkle on feed. I'd call the vet back and ask about the chance of the filly getting ulcers.
