Hi,
I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with fly masks. I have 4 horses and every year I have to buy new ones at least once because they just don't seem to last. Several years ago, I found masks that lasted me for 3 years without wearing out. In fact, the only reason I had to replace them was because the velcro wore out. The mask was still good. But I can't buy them anymore since they were made by some lady locally and she stopped making them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Tracy,
My personal choice is a Kensington Fly Mask, I have had mine for 6 yrs now.
Their are many other brands that are just as good and long lasting like, Wrangler, horse sense and professional's choice. When the mask is not in use, I rinse it with fresh water and hang dry, then seal in a zip lock bag. The environmental influences on our tack contribute to most of its failure.
Good Luck

my horse, Sioux, has moonblindness and we have purchased a guardian flymask for her. This thing looks pretty goofy (my mom thinks the horse looks intelligent :)) but its been on her every day, through all kinds of New England weather, for almost a year and it looks brand new after its first trip through the wash!! its pretty indestructable. We have the guardian mask with 95% UV protection but there's a standard version for ALL HORSES w/ i think 80% UV protection at a cheaper price. They are a little more expensive than a standard mask, but I swear by mine :) we take it off at mealtime and Sioux leans her head into it after feeding....she prefers to have it on! Here's the website, good luck in your quest for the perfect mask......

I haven't tried them but the lycra fly masks are supposed to be very good. It fits behind the horses ears and around the nose like any other fly mask but there is no buckles, straps etc. To protect the eyes it has bug eyed fly screen. It is really cute too because it make the horse look like a fly (though that doesn't have anything to do with quality). I use Roma fly masks on my horses. They are really cheap and last alot longer than other brands plus they come in funky colours (this doesn't have anything to do with quality either).
