Hi~

I have a darling little stud colt who has ring bone in his right front cornet band. I ahve taken him to the vet and he said "corrective shoe him". But I was hoping there was maybe another solution that I was not aware of.

He is sweet! I do not want him to be in pain the rest of his life. He is currently out in a pasture with a soon to be 2yr old mare and he could care less about her. He has his hay bale and he is happy. He gives pony rides to little kids and the kids walk him around. I was able to teach him to lay down on command by the time he was 4 months old. He goes into parades and carries a saddle on his back already and willingly accepts the bit.

I do not want him to be in pain. But I would also like to have him a future trail horse because he LOVES the water.

Does any body know of a way to keep my baby out of pain?

There is no "cure" for ringbone--there is just management. Ringbone is typically caused by trauma to the joints often from poor trimming or conformation flaws. It is bony (arthritic) changes to the bones. Good farrier care is very important for management and preventing further changes.

How old is this guy?

Buster will be two years old July 4, 2009. I know WHAT ring bone is and I have been doing all that I can to help him. But when I got him he was 2 1/2 months old and was weaned from his mother when I got him. He is not big by any means. He is as big as another 8 month old that we have. But I want to be able to help him as best as I can so that he is not in pain and will live out a happy life with DECENT joints. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.
