Where Will You Ride, Compete, Stable Your Horses, Drive, Race, Breed, Grow Hay, or Just Enjoy Your Horses?
It’s only a matter of time until you are personally affected.

Part II

ASHA’s goal is to institute a Code of the West in all areas where it makes sense to maintain the Rural Lifestyle and to protect trails, access and open space in others. This tool combined with favorable long term Equine-Rural Zoning will help prevent the need to keep putting out fires. It is a proactive strategy designed to educate governments and partner with them to help us to protect our precious way of life. Our history, our culture, our economics, the benefits horses bring to society must be preserved for future generations, not just bulldozed and buried.

What does ASHA plan to do with the Concept of the Code of the West and a more permanent equine/rural zoning?

We plan to take these concepts to all municipalities throughout the state. Our current schedule is as follows:

March 23rd we are meeting with Chairman Max Wilson and Andy Kunasek from the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to discuss the COTW and Equine/Rural Zoning and Special Use Permits. This is a follow up to a meeting we had on October 28th when we introduced the concept of a permanent equine overlay.

May 16th we will be presenting the concept to Tim Bee who is Governor Jan Brewer’s special representative for Southeastern Arizona.

Exact Date TBD: Meeting with Jerry Stabley Director of Planning and Zoning Pinal County to discuss the COTW and Rural/Equine Zoning.

As we meet with these gov’t officials, we will refine the presentation and our strategies and continue the process of partnering with the various community officials throughout the state.

What else is ASHA doing?

March 25th we will be discussing the outrageous State Land Usage Fees with Deputy Director Jamie Hogue.

March 26th we are meeting with a Small Business Core Of Retired Executives expert on Fund raising to discuss effective fund raising strategies to reach a goal of $250,000

Starting March 4th and continuing for 12 weeks, an ASHA board member is attending a class in Florence. It is sponsored by the Sonoran Institute's Community Design Academy whose purpose is to work with residents in connecting and designing communities in Pinal County. The goals of the Community Design Academy are: 1) to give each city or town in Pinal County the necessary tools to be able to apply or implement their policy as a model. 2) to apply analytical techniques needed to create an understanding of the state of a community and the problem in question. 3) to gain experience in analyzing a development site within context consideration of the natural environment.

To successfully partner with governments to achieve our mission it is critical that we acquire the same knowledge base that our partners have. Therefore ASHA will always expend the time and energy necessary to accomplish this goal.

In summary:
ASHA’s successful accomplishment of its’ mission which is to preserve, promote and protect the AZ Equestrian Lifestyle depends not on the board of directors but on you. Yes, that’s correct on you. You have to stand up, join up, become a united member under ASHA’s single umbrella, attend hearings and open meetings. You and I have to be proactive, otherwise you will end up being reactive when something negative happens to you personally.

United we stand because we all speak one language: H O R S E. Support ASHA with a donation and your membership, it will be the best lifestyle investment you will ever make.

Without your personal and financial support, we Horse Owners will all fail to keep, enjoy and preserve this wonderful way of life for future generations.
