I have four horses in my pasture, my sons, daughter-in-laws, grandsons and mine. The other day the three of them went riding and my daughter -in -law was in front and my son came up behind her and her horse kick his and it cause his horse to rear up and it threw it's head back and hit my son with his head and hurt him pretty mad. How do you train a horse not to kick when other horses come up behind them. I know on trail rides if you have a horse that might kick you tie a red ribbon on thier tail because your horse don't know the other horse's, but these guys know one another. Thank You for any suggestions.

i just traded my mare that had that problem as well but my trainer says to tie up the leg when they kick and it only takes a few times and the will stop. going to watch the process will let you know :)

There truely isn't a way I've ever seen to stop that other than to avoid it in the future. If you have a known kicker respect his space on another horse. Don't allow anyone to ride up on him. I hope your son is okay!!
