September Report.
Wow! As I look back on September, it has been a busy, productive month. I’ll start at the beginning and briefly hit as many items as I can fit on a single page.
Superstition Vistas presentations in Gold Canyon and Anthem provided a peek at the potential future of Northern Pinal County. The long term growth pattern is tough to imagine. Hundreds were in attendance; thanks!
I spoke at Florence’s Rotary Club about the community’s growth. What a fantastic group of civic leaders who make a difference in the lives of so many.
A drive to talk with the management of the Apache Gold Casino in Globe provided an opportunity to discuss economic development in Pinal County and possible grant funds from the San Carlos Tribe. It looks as if we may receive some much needed funds…
The Martens Memorial and the San Tan Regional Park provided a beautiful backdrop for the anniversary of the passing of a true local hero; Nathan Martens. Thanks to the community for the outpouring of support.
Maricopa County Supervisor Andy Kunasek and I spoke at McCormick Ranch’s Kiwanis Club. We discussed how Pinal County’s growth is the key to Arizona’s economic future and how our county partnerships are critical.
I met some amazing people at the annual Arizona Farm Bureau meeting held in Casa Grande. These people represent the lifeblood of Arizona. We have so many issues to address; from water, to dust, to milk prices, to cotton prices… The list is daunting. Through it all the farmers and ranchers remain positive.
September 11th brought back vivid memories as I was given the chance to speak at a wonderful ceremony in the Town of Queen Creek. Remember where you were?
One of Gold Canyon’s finest passed away this month. Mike Cooney was a great man and servant to the public. He served on the local Fire Board and multiple other organizations. He was a true gentleman and will be missed. Grace, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
My fellow Lions and I had the chance to administer eye exams to the kids at Gold Canyon Elementary School. Thanks to all who took the time to help. We don’t think much about it, but when you catch a vision problem early, it makes all the difference.
Our winter visitors are coming back. I was able to give a summer update to the folks at Cimmaron Trails in San Tan Valley and the Peralta Trails HOA in Gold Canyon. Let me know if your HOA or group would like an update on all things Pinal. The updates are a-political, informative and usually entertaining.
San Tan Valley hosted multiple events this month. The gang at MyBizNow had a golf tournament and raised almost $5,000 for Poston Butte High School’s athletic and arts programs. The Rural Metro Fire Department had a community get together complete with bouncy castles and burgers. Finally, San Tan Heights had a huge community event. Hundreds of residents from all over came together to eat, shop, and socialize. Go STV!
The Boys and Girls Club of Apache Junction enjoyed the Grand Opening of their new Four Peaks Campus. I can’t begin to tell you how monumental this is. Big thanks to the Boys and Girls Club staff, board members, all the volunteers and the AJUSD School Board for making this dream a reality.
On an exciting note, we had four Vice-Presidents of ASU meet at my office to discuss the feasibility of bringing an ASU campus to San Tan Valley and Pinal County. We’ll see where this leads. With the combined efforts of ASU and CAC, we can accomplish nearly anything.
Finally, I had the opportunity to meet Governor Mitt Romney for lunch in Phoenix. It was a showcase of Arizona’s issues and Pinal County was right in the middle.
As you can see, we’re staying extremely busy.
Congratulations to Amber Lee Mudd for being selected as the employee of the month. Keep up the great work! You make us all proud.
