Coconino County Equestrians are asked to show up to help save the Horse Races at the Fairgrounds for 2010.

The following is from Sally Stults, Coconino Horsemen’s Alliance:

To update you on the Horse Races....

The County Parks & Rec Commissioners will be meeting on January 7th (4 p.m. 1st Floor Chambers at 219 E. Cherry) to hear public input in support of the races and formulate their recommendation for the County Board of Supervisors. The BOS is now scheduled to meet on January 19th to vote on the fate of the horse races for 2010.

An updated sponsorship packet for individuals, families, and businesses that want to support the horse races will be emailed out the first of this coming week. A large number of sponsorship commitments, which start as low as $100, will certainly go far in convincing the Commissioners and Board of Supervisors to vote in support of continuing the Horse Races in 2010. This is a vote for a 54-year-old tradition in our area, as well as a real boost for our local economy from the many out of town visitors & participants who come to the races every year.

The bottom line:

Lose an arena here, a resolution there, the rural lifestyle is not important here, and horse racing is gone forever way over there doesn’t mean a thing to you or me right?

WRONG, we lose our freedoms one at a time. If you do not have arenas to ride in, access to trails, urban neighbors that understand and respect your horses then it’s much easier to take away your right to keep your horses at home. This scenario is all too possible one loss at a time.

Show up at meetings and join up with an organization that does nothing other than work to protect your rights and lifestyle.
