November 18th the three Pinal County Supervisors voted 2 to 1 to remove the wording “to preserve the rural lifestyle” from a portion of the newly created Comprehensive Plan that referred to the very rural eastern portion of the county. The reason given by Supervisor Rios who proposed the removal was that it would send the wrong message to developers. Can you imagine any developer anywhere in the state that was scared off because of that statement when they know from experience they could secure up zoning without a problem?

During the Supervisors discussion, Rios turned to me to explain how horse friendly he is. The only reason he did so was that I was the only person in the room to speak in favor of keeping the wording and I was also the only equestrian there. Pinal horsemen were nowhere to be found. Would the situation have been different had 150 equestrians showed up? You bet, especially if they were from Brian Martyn’s district since his vote sealed it. Chairman Snider wisely opposed.
