I am having trouble getting my 2 year old quarter horse gelding to load into the horse trailer. He had a bad experiance loading when he was a baby, and has not been loaded since then. I have gotten him over the fear of being around trailers, he will tie to one, and even stick his head into one, but he just won't get in. I' ve tried loading another horse while he watched, but that still didn't convince him to get in. I also tried enticing him with food in the trailer, ( he is very food oriented,) but that didn't work either. I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing has worked, I need help!!!! Please if you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. I'm very open minded, and willing to try anything! Thanks! ~ Sarah

When I was training my horse I tried loading a different horse first and having someone hold him then trying to get my horse to fallow. This works if you have a two or more horse trailer and two horses. sorry if it did not help :)

go to montyroberts.com hes brilliant he helped my mare so much what u need to to is be calm most people get really stressed i know i used to ....lead your horse to the trailer he will stop then plant himself when he does this now is the time to push him backwards a 3 or 4 steps then lead him in again if he walks forward even one extra step reward him by realeseing the pressure and rub him between the eyes keep doing this over and over gradually he will get further and further into the trailer ....practice when u arent going to a show etc so u can take your time ....get a dually halter they are a god send go to montys website and explore good luck :D

Thanks to everyone who replied to my problem, I really apreciate it. I did finally get my horse to load. It took a lot of time, and patience, but it was worth it. No one was hurt nor stressed out in the process, so it was a pleasant trailering experiance for my horse, so next time mabey he'll get in the trailer with much less resistance. Thanks again to those who replied to my problem. ~Sarah :)

To the young lady who blindfolded her horse.
Sure it worked this time, but let me educate you on horses being clostrophobic!
This is a easy way out of doing the work needed to get a horse to load correctly and without stress. Not good, do the work and the horse will be better off.
I would love to see you blindfolded and then made to load into a trailer not seeing where you are going, horses panic and I am glad your horse didn't go bezerk.
Consider yourself lucky here gal.
When I see people taking an easy way out it shows me how lazy most horse owners have become.
I have broken horses for over 22 years so I am not a newbie to this.
I am sorry this isn't a sweet reply but your horse's well being means more to me than some idiot trophy you may have won that day. I try to be nice but it is replies like this one that gets people hurt and horses hurt and sometimes so badly they have to be put down.
Please research how to do it properly and do the work guys! Your horse will thank you for your patience!
