Hey, My horse is a wonderfull horse, but, as most horses she has one problem, Tieing. I want to train her to tie. When she is tied she pulles back till her rope snapes or we calm her down. Any Ideas how to train her? She is an 16 year old thoroughbred.
Thanks :)

this is a particualy dangerous problem to the horse ...stop tieing her now ...my first horse smashed her withers off doing exactley that before i bought her... you have to remember that horses are flight animals and if they cannot run the will most certianly die you and i know that wont happen but its a natrual instinct that they are born with monty roberts calls it pull back its the into pressure syndrome that all horses have that does it ..the tighter the halter gets the more they pull you need to get this dealt with by a profesional contact monty roberts team for more advice hope thats helped a bit till you can do something try doing most things while feeding so she stays calm x
You will NEVER safely stop your horse from pulling back, and unfortunatly, the ones that 'rarely' do it tend to be the most dangerous to you and themselves. I have been around horses all my life as a horse owner, trainer, and instructor. I have dealt with this problem for many years, using different training methods. Some have worked but most have not. I dont recommend products that I dont believe in, but in this case I will most happily recommend two products that WILL stop your horse from pulling back SAFELY and FOREVER! The first is the' Aussie Tie' and the other is the 'Clip'. Both of these products work similar to each other, so personal preference is up to you. It allows the horse to learn how to 'get away safely' without 'going anywhere'. PLEASE look into these products. They will help you. I use them on ALL horses I work with, regardless of them pulling back or not. Hope this helps you!:)

Run the rope thro the ring but hold onto the other end. When she starts moving back, use a riding crop and tap her hip to make her move over. When she moves sideways she can't brace. Move her until she is parallel to the front wall or fence. "Untie" her, walk her in a circle and bring her in again to "tie". Do this three or four times on each side. By your holding the rope she won't feel as trapped. Use a knotted halter. When she stands quietly, even for a minute, groom her a little then put her away, even for 10 or 15 min if you were planning on riding.
