I just purchased my horse three weeks ago. I am not new to horses, but new to owning my own. I am used to riding lesson horses who are always in perfect condition. I have a question about a discovery I made on my horse Dakota's back left (inside) leg. It is about a 6" scratch and is perfectly straight, but no blood and no oozing of any kind. In fact, after touching it I noticed how dry it felt. His fetlock was a bit swollen but no heat could be found on that leg. I am perplexed as to how this injury happened, but secondly what do I need to fix it. Should I just leave it alone?

Well i have a TB that gets scratchs out of no where all the time. And from what you described to me, its all the same. I would put bag balm or neosporen on the scratch (i prefer bag balm) This will help the hair grow back and heal the cut. If his fetlock was somewhat swollen then he might have hit his leg against the other...or he couls have just hit his leg on something.

Hope i could be a help,
Tiffany
