I have a 16 year old Hanoverian gelding that has developed a sizeable lump on the poll behind his left ear. It is fairly firm to the touch but pliable. He doesn't pull away if I touch it and it hasn't seemed to bother him for the two years he's had it. Lately he's started to shake his head when ridden and sometimes he twists his head rather violently to the right. Then after about 10 seconds, he's back to normal.
He is a dressage horse and must hold his head in a vertical position.
I am several hundred dollars into vet bills and x-rays with no definative answers.
I'm wondering if anyone out there has had or heard of a similar swelling. We have no clue as to the cause.
The vets have ruled out a tumor or a hematoma.
I'll attach a picture taken from above which shows the size of the swelling behind the left ear.
Thanks for any help.
