the best way of insuring that your horses stay where there suppoused to be is to use post and rail fencing ......but if that is not possible the the next best thing is to use a higher vautage battery such as a car battery but this will need recharging regualy good battery packs are availble nowadays..... r your horses rugged? because they wont feel the shock .....the next step is to assess y they are so perssistant in getting out is there other horses near by? do they have enough grass? it maybe that they are simply not happy where they are have you considerd moving them? all these factors must be taken into account when deciding the best way to deal with this problem you say you have wire ....have you tryed the thick tape they seem to take more notice of this as it is more prominent! ..one of my mares is a amazing escape artist and acually smashes down post and rail to get out ..but only in the winter when she is hungry!!!!! hope this helps

Maybe you could tie yer horses when they are outside.. i know that SHOULD BE A LAST RESORT; especially because they could get entangled but HAY.. it could work and it couldnt and shouldnt be permanent.. maybe you could put new fencing up.. maybe a little higher if they are jumpin them.. or jus simply use a higher voltage battery.. hope this helps.. if ya tie em.. it prolly wont stop them completely but it might slow em down to where ya can see them and stop it before it comes too serious..

in all fairness its no different than squatting ...im not sure where u live but here in the uk gypsies leave there horses pretty much anywhere that open land .....and the law cant touch them because of kinda horses squatting rights but if it s open to the public its worth looking at how much its used by dog walkers etc as it may not be safe to have a horses there ....not everyone cares for horses check that the land hasnt been bought by a developer and that it is still to be used for equestrian purpouse other wise the horses may one morning be woken by diggers ...hope this helps x x xsummersrush x

Horses know if the fence is on and how strong the voltage. You need to test the fence regularly and you need 6000 volts to be an effective deterrent. Higher is better, but less than 6000 and they'll take their chances.
