Went to look at a mare and she does abit of windsucking...people say the vet says some do it whne they are bored...she doesn't crib though...should i take her..everything else is up to snuff...she 14 looks good other than this will she be ok or is she a big big risk?

You should have a vet do a nasogeal check, by sticking a camera down her nose to see if her laranx and other throat has any blockage which can cause the horse to sound like that.
Ask about possible allergies as well.

Windsucking or Cribbing, neither one is good the biggest problem with windsuckers is they over develope the muscles in their necks and then when they are asked to raise their head for any reason above that flexed position of windsucking they are unable to. No matter the problem it harms the horses teeth wearing them off abnormally one making it hard to age the horse, two making it so that the teeth front and back don't meet up properly for chewing so they don't get the correct nutrients out of their food making them hard keepers, third when it comes to floating your horses teeth it normally cost more to fix the problem in the mouth, fourth it also makes them prone to colic. Hopes this is helpful.

It definately can cause complications, some even as bad as colic. I have a mare that does it and she has a slight colic apx every 2 weeks (its tough)
