“She seems to be sore in the right rear…?”
We have large pony who will bunny hop in the rear when she starts to run and play in the paddock. She seems to be sore in the right rear also when the farrier works on her. Is the bunny hop a symptom of a problem in the hind end? She moves fine but lead swaps in the rear have been a problem for her. Thanks,
Irene

Dr. Jack Sales’ Answer:
Hi Irene,
The characteristic bunny hopping behind can often be associated with a problem that is called trochanteric bursitis. This is a problem in the hip area and a Vet could diagnose it and possibly recommend a treatment program. Other possible causes may also be involved, so a Vet Lameness exam would be in order.
