For Lisa Williams (August 2005)
Thanks for your help. Unfortunately our beloved horse died the next day. The vet said it was a tumor in the stomach. Thank you for replying, Judi

Dear Dawn, (August 2005)
Thanks a lot for the tips. I will try to follow through with all of them. I don't know if you're familiar with a series of books called Heartland, by Lauren Brooke. They are really good, and they are all about horses. I have been reading those, and I am currently reading the tenth one. I enjoy them very much, as do many of my friends who like horses. Again, thanks a lot for the tips.
Sincerely,
Sahar
Hi Dawn, (August 2005)
Thanks for your advice on how to desensitize my riding horse to bees and flies. I have turkey feathers or a hawk feather that I will try on her. The stable uses a spray that works well on cattle and horses, but I usually put it on her (Nelly) when I am ready to return her to her lot.
I'll have to talk to the stable owner. She said she has had this horse a long time, but the verbal cues she taught me during western riding lessons on other horses do seem to confuse Nelly. The trot is a cluck with calf pressure on both sides. I haven't been taught anything for a slower or faster trot as in English riding. The lope is a slight pull on the inside rein towards the center of the corral with pressure with the outside foot behind the cinch. I use both direct reining and neck reining with her.
Thanks again,
Dennis
For Dr Gryl (August 2005)
I would like to thank Dr. Gryl for her response to my question regarding Corneal Ulcers.
This website is a great resource!
The few questions I have asked here have been addressed promptly, courteously and free of charge.
Thank you. Jenn
Thanks for writing back, Dawn, (August 2005)
And with such a detailed answer. I've been ground training the mare for a while but this seems to be a habit that she arrived with and I've had a difficult time getting her not to run over me, pull me, throw her head, all kinds of dangerous habits. She's better under saddle than she is on the ground. I have a long lead and always wear leather gloves when working with Tika. Thanks again.
