For All About Horses.com (October 2007)

Thank you so much for the links.

I started English riding lessons last night, and the instructor has us comb, brush and clean out the hooves before and after we ride and tack up ourselves, so I'm learning that, as well as the different style of riding. I'll keep looking at your information.

Thank you for your quick response.  As I know this horse inside and out and follow everything she eats and drinks, I'm am taking your advise to call in the vets. I fear that in this stage of her life, as may be a Cushing’s horse.  Thank you again for your help.

Thank you so much for responding to my question.  As you said, my vet made it here before your email.  But it turned out fine.  He had an abscess that had not made its way through.  My vet found it and was able to lance it that gave him some relief.  Now the Epsom salts is soaking and waiting for improvement.  Double worming with a follow up in two weeks and he should be on the road to recovery.  He just needed a makeover :)

Thanks again,

Susan

Thank you Dr. Sales (October 2007)

We were outside working one day & saw the mare was having a very bad day with her allergies - We called our vet and begged for her to be put on something. He said to come by and pick up Tri-Hist Granules. This really seems to have relaxed her more - and has taken the lumps down in a huge way! They are still there but half the size they were - I figure another week on the Tri-Hist they will go away. If not or if the Tri-Hist happens to only work for a certain amount of time - I believe he said we will try putting her on cortisone? She has been on the tri-hist for a week now and there is a huge difference in the mares attitude - I am relieved that maybe she is feeling better. Thank you so very much for your help in understanding the problem better!

For Kimberly Gryl DVM (October 2007)

Thanks for the information.  I took her off the grass and rode her the next day.  That night I put a clay poultice on her legs.  The next morning her legs had completely gone down and have been fine since.  Thanks anyway and hopefully it was the new spring grass that set off the swelling.

Thanks Miranda
