Wholistic Horsemanship
Janelle Nelson has dedicated her life to improving life for horses and their people. Janelle was raised on the "Project Farm" at California State Polytechnic College. Her father was a professor at CalPoly and a great proponent of "hands-on-learning". He instilled his values to Janelle at an early age and she incorporates the "learning by doing" concepts into her clinics and private lessons. She prefers to keep her clinics small and personal which allows each student the chance to practice each lesson with her guidance.
Janelle adamantly believes in the wholistic horsemanship approach. For true communication between horses and people to occur there must be a mind, body and soul connection. She feels that the horse's physical health is vital to its mental and spiritual wefare. She has delved into equine nutrition, herbal remedies, hoof health and corrective dentistry. Always searching to expand her wholistic horsemanship, Janelle will soon be able to add horse acupressure and massage to her resume.
Janelle has studied under many of the master horseman including Leslie Desmond, Buck Brannaman, Bill and Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Mike Bridges and Dennis Reis. She incorporates the teachings of these teachers into her horsemanship. She has buckarooed on ranches in the Great Basin, Arizona and California.
She spends her summers riding through sagebrush in her beloved Great Basin, close to Paradise Valley, Nevada. Arizona is her winter home, near the Cochise Stronghold. She is always willing to travel to develop her skills and to assist others in the development of their own skills.
