“Do you need a Coggins if you want to transport your horses from one state to another?

Dr. Jack Sales’ Answer:

Hi Ann,

You definitely need a negative Coggins test within a year in order to cross into another state. Some breeding farms and some horse auctions and other horse events within a state will sometimes require a horse to have a negative Coggins in order to be entered into their event. It is usually best to have a current negative Coggins available for most horses that are traveling from their usual premises on a regular basis.
