When a carrier is crossed with another carrier you get a horse with the symptoms of Herda. I just wanted to know if there was a test for catching the carrier before it was bred with another.

Yes, there are new tests available for detecting the carrier state of the HERDA gene. Cornell University and University of California at Davis have each announced that they offer a test for the genetic disease. Other laboratories are going to be offering the test sometime in 2008. do a google search on HERDA testing and you will be able to find out more.
