“Very sensitive back, shudders when you massage her. “…

I have a 12 year old QH mare. She has a very sensitive back, she shudders when you massage her. Sometimes ok to ride, sometimes very moody. Cinchy too. Had some lameness in right front, vet x-rayed ok. Nerve blocked and found nothing. Not currently showing lameness. New to horses and not sure if we have a physical problem or a mental/training issue.

The place to start is a thorough veterinary exam, including a lameness portion. You also may consider a chiropractic evaluation and adjustment (if needed). Beware though – only get a *veterinarian* who is certified in chiropractics to work on your horse. Veterinarians are the only ones who have been through the schooling and training necessary to thoroughly understand the horse and all its idiosyncrasies.
