Mouth Injuries

” they have clear liquid running from their mouths a lot. “…

Our horse is grazing on pasture. We feed them sweet feed once a day, plenty of water when they need it, yet they have clear liquid running from their mouths a lot. What do we do?

Dr. Jack Sales’ Answer:

Hi Meredith,

I would sure look into the mouths of these horses as good as you can. Look for swelling of the soft tissues inside the mouth and I would suspect that maybe the horses may be picking up awns in the pasture. If this is the problem, the awns should be avoided. If nothing is seen that answers the question of the constant drooling, it would probably be best to have a Vet check these horses out. I hope this helps and good luck.
